The St. Elizabeth Municipal Corporation is on a drive to develop and regularize cemeteries across the parish of St. Elizabeth.
On Thursday, during the regular monthly meeting of the Corporation, the National Land Agency officially handed over Seven Land titles to the Corporation.
Chairman of the Corporation and Mayor of Black River, Councillor Derrick Sangster, in accepting the titles, said a policy is being developed to eliminate home burials across the parish.
He indicated that to date Santa Cruz and surrounding districts are without an official cemetery. He said following several discussions with the Bauxite Institute in Jamaica, 40 acres of land were handed over to the Corporation.
“I am pursuing to have cemeteries develop in other areas, namely Luana and Font Hill the Mayor,” said.
