St. Elizabeth to get three fire units

The St. Elizabeth Fire Department is to receive three additional fire engines and a water truck from the government of Japan.
Japanese Ambassador to Jamaica, His Excellency Masanori Nakano, signed the agreement for the units with Mayor of Black River, Everton Fisher, at a ceremony held on Friday March 18, 2016 at the official residence of the Ambassador, in Kingston.
The fire engines will be provided through the Embassy of Japan’s Grassroots Human Security Programme, and is worth $10.9 million.
Minister of Local Government, Hon. Desmond McKenzie, said the units will go a far way in servicing the parish. “This is a welcomed move. This will give St. Elizabeth some more coverage,” the Minister said.
For his part, Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Errol Mowatt, noted that the addition to the fleet would go a far way in improving service delivery.
Two of the fire trucks and the water unit will be placed at the Black River Fire Station, while the other fire truck will be located at the Junction Fire Station.
