The Black River Municipal Park has been renamed the J.A.G Myers Municipal Park. Speaking at the opening and renaming of the park on Thursday November 13, Minister of State in the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development Hon. Colin Fagan has commended the St. Elizabeth Parish Council and the Tourism Enhancement Fund for rehabilitating and upgrading the Black River Municipal Park.
The minister, who was giving the keynote address at the newly refurbished park said J.A.G Myers, was a stalwart for local governance.
“Mr. Myers who gave over 32 years’ service to local government is fondly remembered as a modern architect for local government as he always presses for the needs of the small man” the minister said.
Fagon indicated that Myers, who was the Councillor for the Brompton division, was a strong fighter in his representation.
Mayor of Black River Everton Fisher who initiated the idea to have the park named the J.A.G Myers Municipal Park says he is honoured to have the park named in J.A.G Myers honour.
Myers, who was former chairman of the St. Elizabeth Parish Council, entered politics in 1966 and demitted office in 1998, was president of Alga and vice president of the National Workers Union and founding president of the Jamaica united local government representative association.
Mrs, Dian Brown- Allen of the Tourism Enhancement fund in her remarks said the agency spend over $4.1 million dollars to complete the project.
