The Maggoty Police Station in North West St. Elizabeth was selected as the parish project for Labour Day 2014.
According to the Communication and Outreach Manager at the St. Elizabeth Parish Council, Carla Morris, all the projects received “tremendous support” from private and public sector companies. Miss Morris said the Jamaica Public Service Company Jamaica National, National Housing Trust and the Heart Trust Nta. Have all contributed to the day.
Work on the Parish Project commenced on May 22, as the repairs to the station was extensive.
She informed that the scope of work at the police station included the replacement of the floor and ceiling; installation of windows; establishment of a new female bathroom, and general painting of the interior as well as the exterior of the building.
May 22, the first of the work days saw students from the Heart Trust Nta, members of the Jamaica Fire brigade including the Superintendent of Fire, The Hon Beryl Rochester, CD. JP. , Custos of St. Elizabeth, His Worship the Mayor of Black River Councillor Everton Fisher along with senior members of the parish council, and contestants of the Miss St. Elizabeth Festival Queen Competition all giving a helpful hand to the project.
On Labour Day May 23 the Jamaica Public Service Company as well as Jamaica National Foundation came out to help put the finishing touches to a station that has been deteriorating for some time now
His worship the Mayor Councillor Everton Fisher expressed appreciation for the level of financial and manual support the council had received toward the parish project. The Mayor said this is project is ongoing and the council will do whatever it can to assist in improving the working conditions of the men and women of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) with the parish.
