Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Cashier (FMG/CS 2) in the St. James Municipal Corporation with salary range $735,001 - $873,685 per annum and any allowance(s) attached to the post.
Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Municipal Corporation through the Director of Finance or his/her nominee the Cashier is responsible for : - receiving, issuing receipts and lodging money on behalf of the Corporation; effective payments to the Corporations’ debtors (i.e. Employees, pensioners & suppliers) and keeping other registers and ledgers to show money received from, various sources or expended.
· At least Four Ordinary Level Passes or equivalent including Mathematics or Principles of Accounts and English Language
· Certificates in Accounting from Post-Secondary institution and in-service training sources in Government Accounting and Voucher preparation are assets
· At least one (1) year working experience in a related field and/or on the job training.
1. Responsible for the collection of revenue and systems surrounding collection to ensure they are collected in a transparent and full manner
2. To ensure that all collected and received inflows are issued a receipt and deposited into the bank in full, without any deductions from collected revenue before deposit made
3. Ensure all receipts of funds are properly recorded
4. Produce regular cash receipt related reports as required
5. Assist internal or external auditors as required
6. Keep subsidiary Ledger in which are entered Receipts of payments for leases and rental of the Corporations properties.
7. Keep cheque registers for:-
· Entering all cheques drawn and left undelivered on a daily basis.
· Recording signatures of persons receiving cheques.
· Recording cheques to be posted and submitted to the bank (s).
8. Prepare Statutory Deduction cards and submit to the relevant authorities
